🥩🥧 Carnivore Shepherd’s Pie

No peas, no carrots, no mash — just layers of seasoned meat and a creamy, cheesy “faux-tato” topping made from eggs, cheese, and cream.

🍽 Servings: 4

⏱ Time: 30–40 min

🧂Ingredients:

For the meat layer:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or lamb (or a mix)

  • 2 tbsp tallow or butter

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika or onion powder (optional)

For the “mashed potato” topping:

  • 4 large eggs

  • ½ cup ricotta or full-fat cottage cheese (or cream cheese)

  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, gouda — your fave)

  • 2 tbsp heavy cream

  • Salt to taste

To finish:

  • More shredded cheese for topping

  • Optional: sprinkle of pork panko or crumbled bacon for crunch

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Cook the meat: In a skillet, brown the ground meat with tallow and seasonings until fully cooked and slightly crispy. Spread into the bottom of a baking dish (8×8 or similar).

  3. Make the topping: In a blender or bowl, mix together eggs, ricotta (or cottage/cream cheese), shredded cheese, cream, and salt until smooth.

  4. Pour topping over the meat layer, spreading it evenly. Top with extra shredded cheese.

  5. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and slightly puffed.

  6. Optional: broil for 2–3 minutes to brown the top more.

  7. Let rest 5 minutes, then slice and serve!

💡Tips:

  • Want a thicker “mash” texture? Add 1 tsp gelatin or 1 tbsp pork panko to the topping mix.

  • Leftovers reheat beautifully — even better the next day.

  • For a fancier version, top with whipped egg yolks & cheese and pipe it on top like a classic duchess potato look.
