🥩🥧 Carnivore Shepherd’s Pie
No peas, no carrots, no mash — just layers of seasoned meat and a creamy, cheesy “faux-tato” topping made from eggs, cheese, and cream.
🍽 Servings: 4
⏱ Time: 30–40 min
🧂Ingredients:
For the meat layer:
-
1 lb (450g) ground beef or lamb (or a mix)
-
2 tbsp tallow or butter
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
-
½ tsp smoked paprika or onion powder (optional)
For the “mashed potato” topping:
-
4 large eggs
-
½ cup ricotta or full-fat cottage cheese (or cream cheese)
-
½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, gouda — your fave)
-
2 tbsp heavy cream
-
Salt to taste
To finish:
-
More shredded cheese for topping
-
Optional: sprinkle of pork panko or crumbled bacon for crunch
👩🍳 Instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Cook the meat: In a skillet, brown the ground meat with tallow and seasonings until fully cooked and slightly crispy. Spread into the bottom of a baking dish (8×8 or similar).
-
Make the topping: In a blender or bowl, mix together eggs, ricotta (or cottage/cream cheese), shredded cheese, cream, and salt until smooth.
-
Pour topping over the meat layer, spreading it evenly. Top with extra shredded cheese.
-
Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and slightly puffed.
-
Optional: broil for 2–3 minutes to brown the top more.
-
Let rest 5 minutes, then slice and serve!
💡Tips:
-
Want a thicker “mash” texture? Add 1 tsp gelatin or 1 tbsp pork panko to the topping mix.
-
Leftovers reheat beautifully — even better the next day.
-
For a fancier version, top with whipped egg yolks & cheese and pipe it on top like a classic duchess potato look.
