It’s a quick and easy way to bring the flavors of your favorite Chinese takeout right to your own kitchen.

Ingredients:

1 pound (450g) beef steak (such as flank or sirloin), thinly sliced into strips
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
1 bell pepper (green, red, or yellow), thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ginger, minced
1/2 cup beef broth
1 teaspoon sesame oil
Green onions, chopped, for garnish (optional)
Steamed rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions:

In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, sugar, and black pepper. Add the sliced beef to the mixture and let it marinate for about 15-20 minutes.

Heat a large skillet or wok over high heat and add the vegetable oil.

Add the marinated beef to the hot skillet and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until it’s browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.

In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if needed and stir-fry the onion, bell pepper, garlic, and ginger for about 2-3 minutes, or until they start to soften.

Pour in the beef broth and let it come to a simmer. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet with a spatula.

Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir everything together. Let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the beef and vegetables.

Stir in the sesame oil for added flavor.

Taste the pepper steak and adjust the seasoning if needed, adding more black pepper or soy sauce to your liking.

Serve the pepper steak over steamed rice or noodles, and garnish with chopped green onions if desired.

Enjoy your homemade pepper steak! You can adjust the level of spiciness by adding more black pepper or red pepper flakes if you prefer it hotter.
