Carnivore Calzone Recipe
A Carnivore Calzone is perfect for those who are following a carnivore diet or simply craving a hearty, protein-packed meal. Instead of the traditional dough, we’ll use a meat-based crust and fill it with a variety of savory, juicy meats and cheese. Here’s how you can make this filling dish at home.
Ingredients:
For the meat crust:
- 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef, pork, or turkey for variety)
- 1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese (for binding and flavor)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for extra flavor)
- 1 large egg (helps bind the meat together)
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the filling:
- 1/2 lb cooked bacon, chopped into small pieces
- 1/2 lb Italian sausage, crumbled and cooked (or any ground meat you prefer)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese (optional but adds creaminess)
- 1/4 cup cooked ham or salami, diced
- 1/2 cup pepperoni slices or any other cured meats of choice
- Fresh herbs like oregano or basil (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the sauce (optional, for dipping):
- 1/2 cup sugar-free marinara sauce or homemade tomato sauce
- A pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Meat Crust
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat with mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until the ingredients are fully combined.
- Transfer the meat mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and press it into a large, flat round shape, like a pizza crust. Use your hands or a spatula to make sure it’s even and not too thick.
- Bake the meat crust for 15-20 minutes, or until it’s golden brown and cooked through. Keep an eye on it to avoid overcooking or burning.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling
- While the meat crust is baking, prepare your filling. In a large bowl, combine the cooked bacon, Italian sausage, ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, ham or salami, and pepperoni. Season with salt, pepper, and fresh herbs if desired. Mix well.
- Once the crust is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes before assembling.
Step 3: Assemble the Calzone
- Carefully spread the meat filling mixture evenly over one half of the meat crust. Be sure not to overfill it, as you’ll need space to fold the crust over.
- Gently fold the other half of the meat crust over the filling, creating a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal the calzone tightly.
- Optionally, you can brush the top of the calzone with a bit of melted butter or olive oil for a nice, golden finish.
Step 4: Bake the Calzone
- Return the assembled calzone to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is crispy and golden brown.
- Once done, remove the calzone from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes before slicing.
Step 5: Serve
- If you’re using a dipping sauce, heat it up in a small saucepan.
- Slice your Carnivore Calzone into wedges, serve with the dipping sauce if desired, and enjoy this meaty, cheesy delight!
Tips:
- You can get creative with the fillings; add any other cooked meats you like, such as grilled chicken, beef strips, or even steak.
- To make the calzone even more indulgent, you can add extra cheese inside.
- If you’re following a strict carnivore diet, skip the ricotta and opt for only meat and cheese fillings.
This Carnivore Calzone is a perfect blend of savory meats, rich cheeses, and a crispy crust made of ground beef, satisfying your hunger with protein and flavor!
