Carnivore Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls.
Ingredients:
For the Egg Roll Wraps:
- 4 large egg whites (or 3 if you prefer thicker wraps)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp butter (for greasing the pan)
For the Filling:
- 1 lb ribeye steak (or flank steak), thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced (optional, skip for strict carnivores)
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (or provolone cheese)
- 2 tbsp butter (for cooking)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional, for flavor)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Egg Roll Wraps:
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg whites with salt and pepper.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and melt a bit of butter to grease the pan.
- Pour a small amount of the egg white mixture into the skillet, swirling it around to form a thin, even layer. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until the edges begin to lift and the egg is fully set.
- Carefully flip the egg to cook the other side for another minute. Remove from the pan and set aside to cool. Repeat until you have 4 egg wraps.
2. Prepare the Cheesesteak Filling:
- Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the thinly sliced steak and cook for about 3-5 minutes, or until browned and cooked through. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder (optional).
- If you’re using onions, sauté them in the same skillet until they’re soft and caramelized. This adds flavor, but feel free to skip this step for a more strict carnivore version.
- Once the steak and onions are cooked, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
3. Assemble the Egg Rolls:
- Place one of the egg wraps on a flat surface. Add a generous portion of the cooked steak mixture and top with shredded cheddar cheese (or provolone).
- Carefully fold the sides of the egg wrap over the filling and then roll it tightly, like you would a traditional egg roll, to form a sealed log.
4. Cook the Egg Rolls:
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a little butter for frying.
- Place the egg rolls seam-side down in the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
5. Serve:
- Remove the egg rolls from the skillet and allow them to cool slightly before slicing them in half.
- Serve warm with a side of ranch or a carnivore-friendly dipping sauce, if desired.
Tips:
- Wraps: If you prefer a thicker wrap, you can use a combination of whole eggs and egg whites.
- Customize the Filling: Feel free to add other cheese varieties or seasonings to suit your taste. For strict carnivores, avoid any vegetables or non-animal ingredients.
