Chaffle Smash Burgers Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Chaffles (buns):

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or any carnivore-friendly cheese)
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese (optional, for extra richness)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter or beef tallow (for greasing the waffle maker)

For the Smash Burgers:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 mix is ideal for juicy burgers)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 4 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, or your preferred cheese)
  • Butter or beef tallow (for cooking)
  • Optional: cooked bacon, pickles, or carnivore-friendly toppings of your choice

Instructions:

  1. Make the Chaffles:
    • Preheat your waffle maker. Lightly grease it with butter or beef tallow to prevent sticking.
    • In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, shredded mozzarella cheese, cream cheese (if using), garlic powder (optional), and a pinch of salt. Mix until the ingredients are well combined.
    • Pour the chaffle batter into the preheated waffle maker. Cook according to your waffle maker’s instructions, typically for about 3–5 minutes, until the chaffle is golden and crispy.
    • Once done, carefully remove the chaffles and set them aside to cool slightly. You should make 2 chaffles (one for the top and one for the bottom of the burger).
  2. Prepare the Smash Burgers:
    • While the chaffles are cooking, heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add a little butter or beef tallow for extra flavor and to prevent sticking.
    • Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 ounces each) and roll them into balls.
    • Place the balls of meat in the hot skillet. Use a spatula or burger press to smash them down immediately. Press firmly to get a crispy edge and a thinner patty.
    • Season the patties with salt and pepper, and cook for about 2–3 minutes on the first side until they develop a golden-brown crust.
    • Flip the patties and cook for another 2–3 minutes, adding a slice of cheese to each patty just before they are done cooking to melt it.
  3. Assemble the Chaffle Smash Burgers:
    • To assemble the burger, place one chaffle on a plate as the bottom “bun.”
    • Place the cooked smash burger with melted cheese on top of the chaffle.
    • Add any optional toppings like cooked bacon or pickles if you like (keeping it within the carnivore guidelines).
    • Top with the second chaffle as the “top bun.”
  4. Serve:
    • Serve your Chaffle Smash Burgers immediately, and enjoy! These are best eaten fresh and hot, with the crispy chaffle providing a great contrast to the juicy burger.

Tips:

  • Chaffle Texture: If you want the chaffles to be extra crispy, let them cool a bit longer before assembling the burger.
  • Burger Variations: Feel free to customize the smash burgers with other toppings or spices. If you’re looking to add more fat, top with extra cheese or bacon.
  • Chaffle Adjustments: If you prefer a fluffier chaffle, you can experiment by adding more cream cheese or adjusting the egg-to-cheese ratio.

These Chaffle Smash Burgers are a perfect carnivore-friendly meal, offering a satisfying combination of crispy chaffles and juicy smash burgers. Enjoy this keto-friendly, low-carb version of a classic burger!
