Easy Naan Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour 🍞
- 1 egg, lightly beaten 🥚
- 1 tsp salt 🧂
- 1 tsp sugar 🍬
- 1 tsp yeast 🍞
- 1/4 tsp baking powder 🧁
- 1 tbsp milk powder 🧴
- 1/2 cup water 💧
- 1/2 cup milk 🥛
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water 💧 and sugar 🍬. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Sprinkle the yeast 🍞 over the water mixture, and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes frothy. This step helps activate the yeast.
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour 🍞, salt 🧂, baking powder 🧁, and milk powder 🧴.
- Make a well in the center and add the egg 🥚, milk 🥛, and the activated yeast mixture.
- Stir everything together until a soft dough begins to form.
- Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-8 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough feels too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.
- Let the Dough Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Shape the Naan:
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
- Roll each portion into a ball and then roll it out on a lightly floured surface into an oval or round shape (about 1/4-inch thick).
- Cook the Naan:
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. It should be hot enough that a drop of water sizzles when it hits the surface.
- Place one naan onto the skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on the first side, or until bubbles begin to form on the top.
- Flip the naan and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown spots appear. You can press lightly with a spatula to help it cook evenly.
- Optional Step – Butter the Naan:
- If you want extra flavor, you can brush the naan with melted butter or ghee right after cooking.
- You can also sprinkle some garlic or herbs (like cilantro) for a flavorful twist.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Serve your naan warm with your favorite curry, dips, or dishes like chicken tikka masala, hummus, or any other savory treats!
Tips:
- Fluffy Naan: For extra fluffy naan, make sure to let the dough rise fully.
- Crispier Naan: For a slightly crispier texture, roll the dough thinner or cook it a little longer on each side.
- Storage: Leftover naan can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days or frozen for longer storage.
