Grated Mozzarella Cheese and Pepperoni “Chips” Recipe
Ingredients:
-
1 1/2 cups grated mozzarella cheese (preferably whole milk mozzarella)
-
6-8 slices of pepperoni (depending on how many chips you want)
-
Parchment paper (for baking)
-
Optional: pepper, garlic powder, or chili flakes for extra seasoning
Instructions:
-
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This will prevent the cheese from sticking and help the chips come off easily.
-
Make the Cheese Base: Sprinkle the grated mozzarella cheese onto the parchment paper, making small, evenly spaced piles (about 1 tablespoon of cheese per pile). Flatten each pile into a thin, even circle with the back of a spoon or your fingers. Each pile will form a “chip.”
-
Add Pepperoni: Place a slice or two of pepperoni on top of each cheese pile. You can tear the pepperoni into smaller pieces if you prefer. This adds extra flavor and some crispiness to each bite.
-
Bake the Chips: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t burn.
-
Broil for Extra Crispiness: After baking, switch the oven to broil on high. Broil the chips for about 2 minutes or until the edges of the cheese turn golden brown and crispy. Watch carefully during this step, as the chips can burn quickly under the broiler.
-
Cool and Crisp: Once done, remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the chips sit for about 10 minutes to firm up and become crispy. This step is crucial for the perfect texture!
-
Optional – Dab Extra Oil: If the pepperoni has released some oil, you can dab the chips with a napkin to remove any excess grease.
-
Serve and Enjoy: Once the chips have cooled and hardened up, serve and enjoy! These are the perfect low-carb, high-fat snack.
Tips:
-
You can add seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, or a little chili flake to give them an extra flavor boost.
-
You can also make these with different cheeses (cheddar, gouda, etc.) or use different types of deli meat (salami, ham) to mix things up.
These are super satisfying, and since they only have 1 carb per 4 chips, you can enjoy them without guilt! Let me know how they turn out, or if you make any fun tweaks!
