Hearty Steak & Cheese Sandwich with Egg White “Bread”
Ingredients:
For the “bread”:
-
2 egg whites
-
1/4 cup shredded cheese (your choice, but sharp cheese works great)
-
2 tbsp cream cheese
-
Salt and pepper (to taste)
For the filling:
-
12 oz shredded steak (grass-fed is preferred for flavor)
-
1-2 tbsp grass-fed butter (for cooking steak)
-
4 slices sharp provolone cheese (or more, if you like extra cheese)
-
Optional: salt, pepper, and any other preferred seasonings for steak
Instructions:
-
Make the “bread”:
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
In a mixing bowl, combine the egg whites, shredded cheese, and cream cheese. Add a pinch of salt and pepper for seasoning.
-
Mix well until everything is fully incorporated.
-
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and pour the egg white mixture onto it, spreading it out evenly into a rectangle or square shape.
-
Bake for 10 minutes, then flip the “bread” over carefully, and bake for another 10 minutes until golden brown on both sides.
-
Once done, remove from the oven and set aside to cool slightly.
-
-
Cook the steak:
-
In a large skillet, heat the grass-fed butter over medium heat.
-
Add the shredded steak to the pan, seasoning with salt, pepper, and any other spices you like.
-
Cook until the steak is browned and crispy around the edges, about 5-7 minutes, depending on the thickness and how crispy you want it.
-
Once cooked, add the shredded sharp provolone cheese to the steak, and cover the skillet to melt the cheese for about 2-3 minutes.
-
-
Assemble the sandwich:
-
Take your egg white “bread” and layer half of the cooked steak and cheese mixture on top.
-
Place the other half of the “bread” on top to complete the sandwich.
-
Cut in half and enjoy your hearty steak and cheese sandwich!
-
-
Optional:
-
You can enjoy the other half cold later for a delicious leftover treat!
-
Feel free to tweak the seasonings or add any extras like sautéed onions, peppers, or even some mustard or hot sauce for an extra kick!
Enjoy your meal!
