This Skillet Bourbon Steak is a restaurant-quality dish you can make at home! Juicy, tender steak is seared to perfection and smothered in a rich bourbon sauce with garlic, herbs, and a hint of sweetness. Perfect for a special dinner or date night!
Ingredients (Serves 2–3):
For the Steak:
1 lb steak (ribeye, sirloin, or New York strip)

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

For the Bourbon Sauce:
2 tbsp unsalted butter

3 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup bourbon

1/4 cup beef broth

2 tbsp soy sauce or coconut aminos

1 tbsp brown sugar or keto-friendly sweetener

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1/2 tsp dried thyme (or 1 tsp fresh thyme)

Optional: 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions:

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak and sear for 3–4 minutes per side, or until a golden-brown crust forms. Adjust the cooking time based on your preferred doneness.
Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a plate.

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add the butter and minced garlic, and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
Carefully pour in the bourbon (it may flame up briefly) and let it simmer for 1–2 minutes to cook off the alcohol.
Add the beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar (or sweetener), Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine and simmer for 3–4 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

Slice the steak against the grain and return it to the skillet, spooning the bourbon sauce over the top.
Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley if desired. Serve immediately.

Steak Doneness: Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness: 130°F
