Brown Butter Bites Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted Kerrygold Butter (or any high-quality butter of your choice)
- Himalayan Pink Salt or your preferred salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions:
Step 1: Brown the Butter
-
Melt the butter: Place 2 sticks of unsalted butter into a heavy-bottomed pan. Heat over medium-high heat.
-
Cook the butter: Allow the butter to melt, then continue to cook it while stirring constantly. The butter will begin to foam and bubble. Keep stirring to ensure it doesn’t burn.
-
Brown the butter: As the butter cooks, it will begin to turn a warm honey color, and you’ll notice little black flecks forming at the bottom of the pan. These “crunchies” are the browned milk solids and will add a delicious, nutty flavor to your Butter Bites.
-
Watch carefully: Be sure to stay at the stove and continue stirring, as the butter can go from browned to burnt quickly. Once it turns golden and has that rich, nutty aroma (and the “crunchies” are present), remove it from the heat.
Step 2: Cool the Butter
- Let it cool: Allow the browned butter to cool for about 10 minutes. This helps it thicken a bit, making it easier to pour into the muffin tin without spilling.
Step 3: Prepare the Muffin Tin
-
Pour into muffin tin: After the butter has cooled slightly, pour it into a glass measuring cup for easy pouring. Carefully pour the browned butter into the cups of a metal muffin tin, filling each cup about halfway to 3/4 full. Be sure to include the brown “crunchies” in each muffin as they’re the most flavorful part of the butter!
-
Add the “crunchies”: Spoon equal amounts of the browned butter “crunchies” (the little fried butter bits) into each muffin cup. This will give your Butter Bites a nice texture and extra flavor.
Step 4: Add Salt
- Sprinkle with salt: Once you’ve filled the muffin tin, sprinkle each muffin with Himalayan Pink Salt or your preferred salt. The salt helps balance the richness of the butter and enhances the flavor of the “crunchies.”
Step 5: Chill and Set
-
Chill to set: Place the muffin tin in the refrigerator for about 1 hour or until the Butter Bites have solidified and set into firm little bites.
-
Remove and serve: Once set, pop the Butter Bites out of the muffin tin and enjoy! They should have a delightful, melt-in-your-mouth texture with a crispy, buttery crunch.
Storage Tips:
- Store your Butter Bites in an airtight container in the fridge. They will stay fresh for about 1-2 weeks, but they’re so delicious, they might not last that long!
- If you prefer them a little firmer, you can store them in the freezer for an even longer shelf life.
Tips & Variations:
- Flavor variations: You can try adding different spices to the butter while it’s browning, like garlic powder, rosemary, or thyme, for a savory twist.
- Sweet touch: For a sweeter option, drizzle a tiny bit of honey or cinnamon on top before chilling for a fun variation.
- Dairy-free option: If you want to make these dairy-free, you could try using ghee (clarified butter), which has a higher smoke point and is dairy-free.
These Brown Butter Bites are a genius, simple, and indulgent snack! Perfect for anyone who loves the rich taste of browned butter.
